Linux Adventures
I’m gonna start posting about my recent attempts to switch over to Linux for recording. Right now, I have a Gentoo partition on my computer, and I’m trying to use Rosegarden on it. I won’t go into the (what I assume is standard) hair-pulling I went through to get a functioning Linux partition, being a complete Linux/Unix noob. But upon installing/launching Rosegarden last night, the feeling of not knowing what the hell I was doing continued full-steam. I was completely baffled. I couldn’t even get it to make any sound at all. So I’ve been doing some reading, and I’ve got sh’loads to learn about. Turns out that Linux-for-recording has only just begun to be viable, and in its young state, you have to know a lot of shit to do it. So I guess I’ll try to learn it. Or give up.

Hey there,
Sorry to hear that you’re battling to get Rosegarden working. Have you tried Ardour or Wired?
Both of those looked pretty slick to me. However, what I know about music could fit in a thimble, so I might be way off base.

I did look at Ardour, which might be more my speed in the end. But right now I’m stuck on getting JACK to work, which it appears is necessary for both Ardour and Rosegarden. Although, I haven’t done any serious head-bashing with it yet.
